Troubleshooting Tips For Security Gates

Occasionally, you could experience problems with your security gates. Depending on the nature of the problem, you could possibly resolve it with basic troubleshooting. Here are some common problems that can occur with security gates and what steps you can take.

The Gate Hesitates When Opening

When a security gate hesitates to open after the opener is depressed, it could be a sign that the gate is too heavy to close. If you have recently added anything to the gate, such as a decoration, remove it and test the gate.

Before adding anything to the gate in the future, check the owner's manual for the weight limitations to determine what you can and cannot add to the gate.

The Gate Refuses To Open And There Is No Sound

There are several issues that can cause the gate to have no response when you attempt to open it. One reason could be the breaker has been flipped to the "off" position. Check the breaker in your home's electrical main panel. If the breaker for the security gates is in the wrong position, flip it to "on."

You also need to verify that the outlet that the gate is using is properly functioning. Plug another electronic into the outlet. If it operates, the problem is not related to the outlet.

In addition to these measures, you need to check the remote control. If the LED on it is not responding, the batteries might be dead. Change the batteries and determine if that resolves the issue.

The Gate Refuses To Close

The security gate has sensors installed that prevent it from closing if there is some obstruction detected by it. If the gate is not closing, check to see if there is anything in front of the sensors.

If the gate still refuses to close, the problem could be related to the track of the gate. If the track is bent or damaged in any other way, the gate cannot properly slide down it to close. To determine if there is an issue with the track, turn off the power to the gate.

Once it is off, try to slide the gate closed manually. If it closes without issue, the problem is not the track. However, if the gate refuses to close, the track could be damaged and require professional maintenance.

If you are unable to repair the problems related to your security gates, contact a professional to have it repaired.
