Exploring Garage Door Options

Three Possible Reasons Your Garage Door Is Not Opening

When you push the button on your garage door opener, you expect the door to open. When it does not, that means that something is wrong. Garage doors and their opening mechanisms are not all that complicated, but because garage doors are heavy and spring-supported, you're often better off hiring professionals to repair them. Here are three problems that could be causing your garage door to fail and how a garage door repair team is likely to solve them.

Broken Spring

Your garage door is attached to either one or two springs. These high-tension springs keep the door from just falling down when you push the "close" button. These springs are usually connected to wires to prevent them from causing damage if they snap. So, you may not even realize that a spring has snapped until you push the opener button and your door doesn't work. A garage door repair team can remove the damaged spring and put a new one into place.

Blocked Sensors

Your garage door has sensors that make sure nothing is underneath the door before it closes. If these sensors are triggered, the door won't close. This is an important injury prevention feature. However, if your garage door sensors become blocked, then the opener may perpetually "think" something is in the way, and the door may not close at all. A garage door repair person can check for obstructions and remove them. In the worst case, they might have to replace the sensors, which is not that hard to do.

Rusted or Stuck Rollers

Most garage doors have a roller that rolls along the track to open the door. If these rollers get rusty, really dirty, or corroded, then they may not roll within the tracks very well. This can cause the door to get stuck. It may not open or it may not close. A garage door repair team can attempt to clean and loosen the rollers. If that does not prove possible for them to do, then they may replace the rollers. This still can be done with just the removal of a few screws or bolts.

If your garage door is no longer opening properly, one of these problems might be to blame. Reach out to a garage door company near you, and have them come take a look. They can often give you an estimate for the necessary repairs before proceeding with the work.
